QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that store data as a matrix of black and white squares. Originally designed for tracking parts in automotive manufacturing (Toyota, 1994), QR codes have become ubiquitous for contactless payments, website links, contact information sharing, app downloads, and event tickets.
Traditional barcodes store data in one dimension (horizontal bars) and can hold around 20 characters. QR codes store data in two dimensions and can hold up to 3,000 characters. QR codes can also be scanned from any angle and remain readable even when partially damaged (up to 30% of the code can be obscured).
For print use, generate your QR code at the largest pixel size available for best scan reliability when printed small. Always test your printed QR code with multiple phone cameras before mass printing. Include sufficient quiet zone (white space) around the QR code — at least 4 modules wide on all sides.
