Remove password protection and editing restrictions from PDF files. Browser-based, no upload, 100% private.
Powerful features, completely free — no strings attached.
Three simple steps — no software, no waiting.
A locked PDF has password protection or permissions restrictions that prevent opening, copying, editing, or printing. "Unlocking" a PDF means removing these restrictions so the document can be freely accessed and modified. There are two types of PDF locks: user passwords (prevent opening) and owner passwords (allow opening but restrict editing/printing).
Only unlock PDFs that you own or have the legal right to unlock. Our tool should be used to recover access to your own documents (forgotten password) or to work with documents where you have the owner's permission. Bypassing copy protection on purchased content or proprietary documents without authorization may violate terms of service or copyright law.
Our browser-based tool uses pdf-lib's ignoreEncryption option to load the PDF while bypassing restriction metadata, then saves a clean copy without protection flags. This works for most permission-restricted PDFs. For PDFs encrypted with a user password (that prevents opening), you must know the password to supply it.
