What Does Unlocking a PDF Mean?

A locked PDF has password protection or permissions restrictions that prevent opening, copying, editing, or printing. "Unlocking" a PDF means removing these restrictions so the document can be freely accessed and modified. How Our Tool Works

Our browser-based tool uses pdf-lib's ignoreEncryption option to load the PDF while bypassing restriction metadata, then saves a clean copy without protection flags. This works for most permission-restricted PDFs. For PDFs encrypted with a user password (that prevents opening), you must know the password to supply it.
